Crystal Evans' highly anticipated hardcover book, What Remains, is a striking fusion of black and white photography and poetry. This collection delves into themes of perception, memory, belonging, narrative, and stoicism, framed through the lens of phenomenology.
Evans’ work invites readers to engage with the traces we leave behind—both tangible and intangible. Through evocative imagery and poetic reflection, What Remains explores the liminal spaces between presence and absence, asking us to consider what is seen, what is felt, and what lingers.
What Remains by Crystal D. Evans is an intimate dialogue between image and word, a meditation on presence and absence, memory and perception. This collection of her black and white photographs, overlaid with her poetry, captures the fleeting, the forgotten, and the unspoken. Light and shadow, form and emptiness—each composition is an attempt to distil the essence of a moment before it slips away.
This deeply personal and thought-provoking book is available now for sale here.
Artist and poet Crystal Evans has been announced as a featured artist in Inequality, an upcoming exhibition at Roseberry Road Studios, Bath. Running from 10–25 April 2025, the exhibition brings together work from 30 acclaimed artists, carefully selected by Homer Sykes, Toufic Beyhum, and Calum Mackenzie.

The Herbert Read Gallery presents What Remains, a solo exhibition of Crystal Evans' latest body of work, exploring themes of memory, loss, and human fragility through a phenomenological and stoic lens. Bringing together black and white photography, poetry, and sculpture, the exhibition examines the remnants we leave behind—both tangible and intangible—and how they shape our perception of existence.
At the heart of What Remains is an enquiry into the way we experience and process traces of the past. Her phenomenological perspective invites viewers to engage with the work through sensory and emotional perception, emphasising how memory and materiality interact. Meanwhile, her stoic philosophical lens underlines the inevitability of impermanence, reflecting on themes of detachment, resilience, and acceptance.
Through stark contrasts, fragmented forms, and poetic reflections, What Remains creates a dialogue between presence and absence, wholeness and fracture. The exhibition is an intimate meditation on what lingers after time, trauma, and transformation, offering a contemplative space for viewers to reflect on their own encounters with impermanence.

On 6-8th December 2024, Preston Village Hall was transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and community spirit for The Christmas Art Exhibition, curated by local artist and curator Crystal Evans. The event showcased an impressive array of work from 11 talented Kent artists, bringing together a delightful mix of mediums and styles, including pottery, copper sculpture, photography, collage, as well as figurative, landscape, portrait, and abstract paintings, and oil pastel illustrations.
The featured artists—Ellie Matthews, Emily Stone, Angelo Pizzigallo, Liz Anderson, Crystal Evans, Pam Tong, Sophie Otto, Matt Anker, Jo Court, Katrina Dallamore, and Christine Ratcliffe—shared their unique visions, offering something for every art enthusiast. Despite challenging weather with heavy rain and high winds, nearly 200 visitors braved the elements to enjoy the exhibition, making it a resounding success.
Collectively, the artists sold works totaling over £2,000, a testament to the talent and appeal of our local creatives. Donations from the proceeds also benefited both Preston Village Hall and UK for UNHCR, with each receiving a generous £259.70.
One visitor shared their admiration, saying, “The range of talent was incredible—I couldn’t believe this was all from local artists! I’ve found the perfect Christmas gift here.” Another added, “It was such a warm, welcoming event, despite the weather. The energy in the hall was wonderful.”
The exhibition’s success was not only measured by sales but by the sense of community it fostered. Opening night was marked by a heartfelt speech and 'ribbon-cutting' by Tom Gale, Chairman of the village, whose enthusiasm set the tone for the weekend. The festive atmosphere was enhanced by cheerful conversations, shared appreciation for the arts, and the collective effort of everyone involved.
Special thanks go to the behind-the-scenes helpers (Jason, Abdul, Ali, Simon, and Michael) who worked tirelessly to set up and dismantle the hall, ensuring the event ran smoothly. Their dedication was crucial in making the exhibition such a joyful occasion.
Curator Crystal Evans expressed her gratitude, saying, “This exhibition was about more than just showcasing art—it was about bringing people together. The support from the community has been overwhelming, and I can’t thank everyone enough for making this event so memorable.”

Acclaimed artist Crystal Evans has reached a new milestone in her career as her video art and poetry were showcased at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku. Her work, In Solidarity, was specifically commissioned for this prestigious event after a senior COP29 delegate discovered her earlier piece, Courage, online. Struck by the emotional power and relevance of her art, the delegate personally reached out to Evans, inviting her to create a video art piece that would inspire and resonate with delegates from across the globe.
Blending found footage, original poetry, and evocative soundscapes, In Solidarity explores themes of unity and shared responsibility in the fight against climate change. Paired with Courage, both pieces demonstrate Evans’ profound ability to transform pressing global issues into deeply moving and thought-provoking art. These films captivated the international audience of United Nations delegates, creating a moment of reflection during the high-stakes conference.
Crystal Evans’ Courage and In Solidarity are now available to watch on YouTube. However, permission to exhibit her video art publicly must be obtained in writing directly from the artist.
This extraordinary opportunity not only highlights the global relevance of Evans’ work but also celebrates her ability to bring art and activism together on one of the world’s most critical stages.

I am thrilled to share a July 2024 feature from the Sandwich Community Ad Magazine highlighting our upcoming Summer Art Exhibition 2024 by The Art Society Sandwich. As Co-Curator of the show, I had the honour of discussing the inspirations behind the diverse collection this year with their journalist.
Excitingly, this popular magazine also chose to showcase one of my landscape paintings in its collage spread (see gold frame, upper centre) called "A Scottish Scene," which aims to capture the serene beauty of Scotland's countryside, plus one of my more intricate pen and ink works (bottom right) called "Pair of Koi," symbolising the tranquility and balance we can find in nature.
This wonderful exhibition promises a captivating array of works for sale and show from talented local artists, each piece telling a unique story. We invite everyone to join me in celebrating the richness of local artistic expression.
Be sure to visit this free exhibition at St Mary's Arts Centre in Sandwich from 2-4th August, 10-4pm each day, to fully experience all these pieces (and much more!) in person and engage with our vibrant and thriving community of artists and The Arts Society members.
See you all at the show!

"Renowned artist Crystal Evans achieved a resounding triumph at The Spring Show on April 22nd, 2023, hosted by The Horticultural Society of Preston, Elmstone, & Stourmouth. The exhibition became a testament to Crystal's exceptional artistic prowess as she secured the prestigious silver trophy for her outstanding contributions across painting, sculpture, and photography. Her exhibits exuded a captivating fusion of creativity and skill, leaving visitors in awe. Crystal's painting of Pink Roses in Glass Vase exhibited a mesmerizing portrayal of the fragility of nature's beauty and raised important questions about our relationship with it in art and horticulture. Her figurative sculpture breathed emotive life into the clay, and her photography froze a rare moment in time with breathtaking precision, capturing the exquisite Spring Mass Migration of the Monarch Butterfly to Costa Rica. The recognition bestowed upon Crystal Evans by this award serves as a testament to her remarkable talent and unwavering dedication to powerful storytelling. This well-deserved accolade further cements Crystal's position as an artist of note, enriching the Kent art scene with her unique vision."
